Only 30 days to go until the 14th edition of the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites! The off-road universe will converge on Selva di Val Gardena in a month, with cyclists from all over the world hopping onto their MTB to become a HERO!
And this includes a name that has gone down in cycling history – Peter Sagan has confirmed he will take part in the HERO Dolomites. An extra special challenge as he’ll have to face the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world!
RACE COURSES UPDATE
Due to the heavy snowfalls last winter, the race courses are still not open. Thanks to our incredible volunteers and the upcoming warmer weather, we’ll do everything in our power to clear the courses from snow before race day.
HERO KIDS
On Friday, 14 June 2024 the mountain bike champions of the future will take centre stage. The HERO KIDS is a non-competitive race featuring two routes in Selva for children between 4 and 12. Every participant will receive a welcome pack – just like the adult cyclists! – with an Alé Cycling technical jersey and a HERO cap.

HEROE GOURMET
The HERO Gourmet is back! After a successful first edition, the second event and its two routes combining good food and e-bike fun on the Seiser Alm is back! Participants will kick off from Selva and stop in three mountain huts – the first will serve an aperitivo, the second a typical lunch, and the third and last stop on the tour a dessert. The courses are respectively 25 km and 35 km and participants can also take part on an e-mtb.
A CARBON-NEUTRAL HERO
We reached our goal of becoming a carbon-neutral event during the last edition. In other words, we have slashed our emissions to the bare minimum thanks to our sustainable activities and a CO2 offsetting scheme (planting trees). Our mission is to turn our ambitious goal into a standard feature of the race.

VAL GARDENA
Val Gardena is one of the most beloved destinations for mountain bikers. Thanks to the cutting-edge lift facilities catering for bike and e-bike transport, cyclists can easily access the network of scenic trails. THE HEROES WELCOME PACK
The 2024 HERO Südtirol Dolomites will take place between 13 and 15 June 2024 in Val Gardena, the Dolomites. Everyone who registers will get a Welcome Pack. Besides the now traditional Alé Cycling jersey, the 2024 Pack will also contain a practical, HERO-branded microfibre Sport Towel set featuring two towels. Ideal for both training and your downtime, it will become a trusted companion on many of your outings.
THE HERO KIDS WELCOME PACK
Our cyclists between the ages of 4 and 12 ‘competing’ in the HERO KIDS will also receive a dedicated Welcome Pack. They can wear their Alé cycling jersey as well as an adorable cap as they explore the streets of Selva Val Gardena during their mini ‘marathon’.

THE 2024 HERO BIKE FESTIVAL: THE MTB WORLD FLOCKS TO THE DOLOMITES BETWEEN 13 AND 16 JUNE!

Despite the cooler temperatures, we just can’t seem to shake off the need to keep on cycling! And, while the next edition of the HERO Südtirol Dolomites isn’t exactly around the corner, many of you have already saved the date on the calendar: 15 June 2023! As you’re well aware, not only is it the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world – indeed, it’s so much more! A high-octane, professional race which is a great moment to come together in the spirit of the more we are, the merrier it will all be.
Don’t do anything else between 13 and 16 June because we’ll expect to see you at the 2024 HERO Bike Festival between 13 and 16 June: four jam-packed days of stands, music, and side events, as well as plenty of sweat and tears (tears of joy, of course!).
THE PROGRAMME
Thursday, 13 June 2024: the kick-off of the HERO Village, home to the best MTB brands and, just a stone’s throw away lies the ZERO Village showcasing the very best of sustainability. The HERO Trails also await: local guides will accompany you to try out the trails, giving you a taste of what to expect on race day. Friday, 14 June 2023 all eyes will be on our mini HEROes, who will make the village’s streets their own playground with the now unmissable HERO Dolomites KIDS, whose participation has been growing from with each new edition. A non-competitive event for children between 4 and 12 who will compete on one of two trails based on their age. A great experience for the HEROes of the future!
Saturday, 15 June 2024: the big day has finally arrived, time to head to the HERO start line! The 14th edition of the HERO Südtirol Dolomites will also include the AVIREX HERO Challenge, an extra special challenge on the last climb of the race’s three trails boasting respectively 60 km, 71 km and 86 km. The day will end with The Great Finale! Award ceremony and the HERO Party.
Sunday, 16 June 2024 rounds the whole edition off with an e-bike excursion for the second edition of the HEROE Gourmet. The excursion boasts two trails, 25 km and 35 km, across the Seiser Alm to discover the area and its typical meals and beverages.

As you know, we started the FROM HERO TO ZERO project in 2022, a programme boasting numerous sustainable activities. During the event’s four days, we produced 91,000 kg of carbon dioxide which were offset by a reforestation project. This meant the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites was recognised as a “carbon neutral” event – the first mountain bike race ever to be awarded such a label.

THE 2023 HERO DOLOMITES BIKE FESTIVAL: CELEBRATING MOUNTAIN BIKING
“At least once in my life – that’s my goal,” is what professional mountain bikers say when thinking about the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites. This now legendary race stands out for the courses’ technicality and difficulty as well as for its location: the Dolomites.
On 17 June 2023, countless bikers from all over the world will join the starting grids of the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world. The race features two courses: the first boasts 86 km and 4,500 hm, while the second 60 km and 3,200 hm.
It wouldn’t be the HERO without the HERO Bike Festival! The event lasts four days, from 15 to 18 June. The satellite event will offer plenty of occasions to explore everything mountain biking – and much more – and participants as well as their supporters and amateur bikers can make the most of their stay in the valley.
It all kicks off on Thursday, 15 June 2023: head to the exhibition village to take a look at the stands of the go-to companies in the off-road sector and their green initiatives. On this day, you can also book a reconnaissance tour accompanied by an expert guide on the HERO Trails. But there’s more! The evening will see the HERO Charity Fashion Night take place, welcoming HEROes with a show that they won’t forget any time soon!
Friday, 16 June is when even children between 4 and 12 can give the HERO a shot! The 2023 HERO KIDS is a non-competitive event featuring two age-specific courses.
And then, finally, the day everyone has been waiting for: on Saturday, 17 June, the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites will take place! The amazing race will bring the centre of Selva di Val Gardena to life for over 12 hours, all the excitement building up to The Great Finale! when the winners will be crowned. It will be followed by the HERO Race Party, a veritable celebration with live music featuring local bands and a DJ set.
The entire event will be organised with sustainability front and centre. Gerhard Vanzi, founder of the HERO project, says: “After having achieved “carbon neutral” recognition during the last edition, we wanted to roll out another initiative to cement our commitment to smart tourism, one which highlights the local area and event planning. The HERO programme will grow, and this addition will surely also be welcomed by professional bikers, who will want to explore the Dolomites’ mouth-watering delicacies on Sunday.” Something every HERO can look forward to in 2023!
THE HERO DOLOMITES KIDS: 16 JUNE 2023
This event is dedicated to our younger HEROes, and takes place on Friday, 16 June. It consist of two routes in the heart of Selva Val Gardena: a short, 1.2 km option for children between 4 and 6, and a longer, 2.7 km version for more advanced cyclists. Our mini HEROes will receive a welcome pack with a HERO jersey and hat, and Crankbrothers cap and socks they can wear even when back at home.

The BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites Organising Committee is aware of the mountains’ priceless value. Which is why it has chosen that the iconic event for off-road cycling, known as the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world, needs to be the target of a number of strategies and initiatives to ensure its environmental and social long-term sustainability.
