Enthusiastic fans, happy and favourably impressed athletes, two well deserving World Champions, and last but not least a total of 4.015 potential HEROes, all having taken on the challenge of completing the toughest mountain bike marathon the world has to offer – the Südtirol Sellaronda HERO! Again this year the race confirmed its growing reputation, as well a certain fascination the world over, as a permanent fixture in the international mountain biking calendar.
The 2015 Heroes are Alban Lakata and Gunn-Rita Dahle-Flesjå: in Val Gardena, the Austrian and the Norwegian were crowned World Champions of the UCI Mtb Marathon. On the chalenging course of the Südtirol Sellaronda HERO, it having the honour of hosting this year’s races, Lakata dominated from start to finish and his arrival in Selva was an unaccompanied one, and the same story was true as far as Norwegian Gunn-Rita Dahle was concerned.

SÜDTIROL SELLARONDA HERO 2014
Columbian Leonardo Paez and German Elisabeth Brandau capture gold in the fifth edition of the Südtirol HERO under bright sunshine. The long-distance race in the Dolomites is part of the UCI Marathon World Series and also the last challenge ahead of the UCI Marathon World Championships next week in South Africa. Silver went to Swiss Urs Huber, Roel Paulisson from Belgium ranked third. In the women’s race, Michalina Ziolkowska from Poland crossed the finish line as second ahead of Norwegian Borgild Løseth. Overall winner of the UCI Marathon Series in German Steffen Thum. The marathon track ran over 84 km/4300 m altitude for the men and 62 km/3300 m for the women. A new participant record was set with 4014 participants from 40 nations. The 2015 UCI Marathon World Championships will take place on the tracks of the HERO.

A heroic race also in terms of countries represented.
The 2013 race saw Leonardo Paez, the Columbian biker of the TX Active Bianchi team repeat his success of the previous year. It was also a HERO type race in terms of participation - 3,013
competitors from 33 different countries, as well as the race being "sold out" months beforehand. We need to remember that we are only approaching the 4th running of the HERO and yet it seems to be a 'must', in the sense of being the competition which all riders must attempt at least once so as to be a Hero - even if just for one day!

SÜDTIROL SELLARONDA HERO 2012
Half-hour of rain before the start -: that is all it took for the race to take an even more heroic turn. 2012 bikers (the same number as the year of the race!) readied themselves at dawn last Saturday, 23rd June, ready to become the main characters in the running of the third editon of Südtirol Sellaronda HERO, the moutain bike marathon which circles the Sella mountain group in the heart of the Dolomites. Some of the bikers chose the truly heroic challenge of 82 km while others took the shorter one of 52 km; even this shorter race involved a difference of altitude of 2700 metres. A day that all competitors will certainly have marked in red in their diary. A day to remember indeed for the winner of the mens race, the Colombian Leonardo Paez, while the womens winner had double cause for celebration - the German biker Katrin Schwing finishing on top of the podium for the second year running. And what about the others? All heroes, with not a single exception!

Mirko Celestino (ITA) is the winner of the "Südtirol Sellaronda Hero 2011 - 82 km". With a race time of 4 hours, 26 minutes and 7 seconds Celestino was the best of the day. Second place for Yuri Ragnoli (ITA) with a race time of 4 hours, 28 minutes and 51 seconds. Third place for Alexey Medvedev (RUS). Katrin Schwing (GER) is the women winner of the "Südtirol Sellaronda Hero 2011 - 82 km" with the time of 5 hours, 59 minutes and 09 seconds.

Stephen the Great (ITA) won the 50 km of "Südtirol Sellaronda Hero 2011, with a time of 3 hours, 4 minutes and 20 seconds. Second was German Dorhmann Manzano (ARG) and third Daniel Jung (ITA).

The hardest mountain bike race of Europe set in one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world, the Dolomites, is story. Two courses crossing over 4 legendary Dolomitic passes - Gardena, Campolongo, Pordoi and Sella. The ASC Olang representative, Klaus Fontana, is the ultimate leader of the Suedtirol Sellaronda Hero who puts Georg Piazza in second place and Riccardo Milesi in third place of the podium. In the women's category, Anna Ferrari, from Vicenza, is the winner. On the 50-kilometre track, Andrea Zamboni is the winner in the men's category and Andrea Tasser is the winner in the womens' category.
