THE 2022 BMW HERO SÜDTIROL DOLOMITES AND SUSTAINABILITY
We believe our duty is to protect the environment and stage the HERO takes place in every year. The Dolomites are uniquely beautiful but they’re also delicate, fragile systems. Our mountains, and the rest of the planet, are part of an environment which is at risk of collapsing with every passing day due to the actions carried out by humanity.
Which is why we’ve come up with the HERO TO ZERO sustainability programme. Its aim? To protect the Dolomites guided by the UN’S Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Everyone will be asked to contribute a bit – HEROes, our corporate and institutional partners, and the businesses operating in the valleys. These tangible actions will revolve around green transition, reducing and offsetting CO2 emissions, avoiding waste, and social inequality.
The programme is transversal. Even our prizes were revisited to ensure we reduced emissions in this area. To reward the overall winners, we’ve decided to celebrate the Dolomites: the trophy is made out of dolomite rock, made by Tobias Nussbaumer from Steinobjekte in Val Sarentino. Another prize will also focus on South Tyrol in the shape of a “Delizia di mele dell'Alto Adige" hamper by PUR Südtirol, bursting to the brim with delicious apple-based products. The medals are made with recycled material and the ribbon is made in R-PET.
