HERO SÜDTIROL DOLOMITES: THE HARDEST MOUNTAIN BIKE MARATHON IN THE WORLD: REGISTRATIONS FOR THE 2020 RACE, NOW AT ITS 11TH EDITION, ARE OPEN
This journey started over 10 years ago, uniting thousands of people from 45 countries and 5 continents day after day. People from every walk of life but united by one huge passion: mountain biking. This is HERO Südtirol Dolomites, the hardest mountain bike race in the world, which will celebrate its 11th edition on 20 June 2020 in the Dolomites.
CYCLING IN THE DOLOMITES, A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE
The natural landscape in which the HERO Südtirol Dolomites takes place made it a unique race from the start: the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its two legendary routes fully respect the area and nature surrounding the circuit: the ‘long’ circuit boasting 86 km and 4,500 m elevation gain, and the ‘short’ circuit featuring 60 km and 3,200 m elevation gain. They were conceived at the feet of these beautiful mountains, to be found nowhere else in the world, and made the marathon among the most loved, coveted and hardest events on the international landscape.

HERO DUBAI, 6-8 February 2020
The Dubai race will take place in Hatta and its Nature Park. The location aspires to become a benchmark for sport tourism destinations by creating a permanent Mountain Bike Trail Centre. An ambition reflecting the Arab destination’s wish to place itself on the international market of off-piste bikes. The route features 63 km and 1,600 m elevation gain; the route is mostly on dirt road and sand and does not feature specific technical elements. Another shorter route (30 km) will also be available for anyone wanting to experience what it feels like to bike across the desert. However, only competing in the 63 km race will qualify you to take part in the HWS circuit.

HERO WORLD SERIES: MOUNTAIN BIKES UNITE DUBAI, THE DOLOMITES AND THAILAND
HERO World Series is a new international mountain bike race circuit which will deliver the HERO spirit and emotions to three locations in 2020. They all stand out for their breathtaking natural landscape: the HERO Dubai will take place between 6 and 8 February, the HERO Südtirol Dolomites between 18 and 21 June 2020 as per tradition on the Dolomites, while the HERO Thailand will take place between 8 and 11 October.
Every race will be planned by paying special attention to sustainability and by respecting the location’s territory, nature, and traditions. The races will be framed by the unmissable HERO Bike Festival: every participant and their family and friends can experience that very special HERO environment in Dubai Desert, on the Dolomites’ summits, and submerged in Thailand’s luxuriant forests.
HERO SÜDTIROL DOLOMITES, 18-21 June 2020
The 10th edition was a runaway success: 2020 aims to be the same and will feature the two traditional routes. The longer route with its 86 km and 4,500 metres of elevation gain, and a shorter route with its 60 km and 3,200 metres elevation gain. Slightly different routes united by the breathtaking backdrop of the Dolomites, a UNESCO Heritage Site.

HERO THAILAND, 8-11 October 2020
A breath of fresh air: a whole new world, a fascinating country. Bikers will dive headfirst into the natural wonders of the forests surrounding Chiang Rai in Thailand. A journey which goes beyond the merely physical as they will also encounter traces of the Buddhist culture, in the shape of the White Wat Rong Khun temple. The route is 62 km and features 1,800 m elevation gain. Trails are mainly on dirt road of red soil, submerged in a canopy of lush, green nature unspoilt by mankind. Long ascents – peaking at 1,200 m – are followed by a descent coasting the river, taking bikers back to the starting point.

A BIG THANKS TO THE 500 VOLUNTEERS
The BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites is without a shadow of a doubt a unique and spectacular race, the organisation of which depends, every year, hundreds of volunteers working for months to ensure the realisation of the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world. More than 500 volunteers spend time and energy, and work diligently and punctually, to follow every stage of the race organisation: from retrieving race numbers and collection of the race pack, from refreshments to routes perfectly prepared to make life easier for the bikers. Every volunteer is fundamental for the HERO. It is thanks to each of them that the HERO, edition after edition, has always been a great success. It is to each of them that we say thank you, not once, but 500 times over!

HERO WORLD SERIES: "WORLD CLASS" MOUNTAIN BIKING
A few hours after the conclusion of the 2019 edition, a great novelty has been announced for 2020 of the HERO Südtirol Dolomites: the new international circuit of HERO World Series races. Born in the Dolomites, the race format of the world's toughest mountain bike marathon will be repeated on two other dates in locations with a strong exotic appeal, and where, after having measured yourself on the breathtaking climbs of the Sella group, you can now challenge the innovative trails across the Dubai desert and experience the joys of biking across the lush nature of Thailand.
From 6 to 8 February 2020, Dubai will host the first edition of HERO Dubai in the town of Hatta. Home to the national reserve and an area that allows a glimpse into the authentic culture of the Emirates, the territory of Hatta is striking for the atmosphere that only the desert is able to convey in its natural authenticity. The marathon route is on a 72 km circuit with 2,240 metres of altitude difference and is open to all bikers. Alongside the proposal of Dubai, the HERO World Series circuit extends even further east with the third stage being held in Thailand, and more precisely in the locality of Chiang Rai. It will host the event from 8 to 10 October 2020.
Naturally, the HERO WORLDS SERIES circuit will take in the Dolomites, the place where it all started ten years ago. The date set for the 2020 edition is Saturday 20 June 20 and this will be the 11th edition of the HERO Südtirol Dolomites.
REGISTRATIONS ARE OPEN
Registrations for the HERO World Series are open from yesterday, 17 June, this to celebrate 10 years of the HERO. The circuit is offered at the promotional price of Euro 290,00 (representing a saving of Euro 60,00) and includes participation in all three races of the HERO World Series. The promotional price is valid until 30 June 2019. Registrations must be made through Datasport, also accessible from the website www.heroworldseries.com.
The first stage of the HERO World Series will be held in Hatta and the birth of this HERO event in February 2020 is thanks to the partnership with XDubai, a company in the United Arab Emirates which has a strong focus on athletes and events dedicated to action sports. In its intended development of activities, the company aims to enhance the destination of Dubai as an attractive and well-structured location for the practice of many disciplines: of course, among these must also now be counted mountain biking and the birth of HERO Dubai is a further step along this growth path.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE HERO WEEKEND
During the weekend of the tenth edition of the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites variable weather is forecast with the probability of some showers. We therefore advise you to bring with you suitable clothing to best face the toughest mountain bike race in the world, remembering that you will be biking at over 2,000 metres above sea level.
THE DOLOMITES, A FRAGILE AND SENSITIVE ENVIRONMENT TO PROTECT
The Dolomites, a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site since 2009, are a 'common good' to be conserved and protected. Cycling in close contact with nature, in a rare scenario such as the Dolomites, necessarily means learning to live with the surrounding environment, respecting its rules and minimising any impact on this delicate natural topography. This is why the Organising Committee of the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites has been committed since the very first edition back in 2010 to promoting a culture of respect for nature, so much so that it has received the precious "Going Green Event" certificate.
THE HERO PROGRAMME 2019
On the occasion of the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites 2019, the HERO BIKE Festival returns from 13 to 16 June. Thursday 13 is scheduled for the "HERO X Night", an evening during which you can relive the excitement of 10 years of the HERO. On Friday 14 June there is the HERO KIDS for children 4 to 12 years of age. At 7.10 a.m. on Saturday 15 June we have the start of the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites. At 9.00 p.m. on Saturday the three days conclude with the HERO Great Finale! and the Champions' Awards ceremony. And to really finish in style on Sunday 16 June, there will be the first edition of ZERO Dolomites, a day to spend on the bikes in the name of sustainable mobility.
For the complete programme visit the link:
For safety reasons, there will also be this year time limits at certain points on both routes. This is a necessary measure to ensure that all athletes are safe and protected from any critical situations, such as having to cycle after dark on mountain trails in complete solitude and with little energy left to return to the finish line. With this choice we wish to increase the level of safety of a certainly demanding race, the nature of which needs to be respected and not underestimated.
To consult the time limits of the various check-points go to point 12 of the regulations:
SOUTH TYROL - ALTO ADIGE: a land to discover at the dining table
They are places so beautiful that it is almost hard to imagine them, places that leave you breathless at first glance, and that once discovered remain impressed for ever. But not only that, they are also places of taste and genuine products. These include the renowned and well-known Marlene apples, as well as the fruit and vegetable products of the Unterthiner company. The Peter Zemmer wine cellar and the Kellerei Bozen wine cellar are also worth a visit. Equally typical and appreciated is the Siebenförcher sausage factory, famous for its speck. And for all those who suffer from coeliac disease or food intolerances, Dr. Schär's products are perfect.
