HERO SÜDTIROL DOLOMITES: COUNTDOWN TO THE 2018 EDITION
From 20.00 on Wednesday 13 September mountain bike enthusiasts have the chance to sign up for the HERO and attempt to become another contender in the long list of HERO successes. There is not long to go at all to the registration opening date for the ninth edition of the world’s toughest mountain bike marathon. It will be a real exciting ‘celebration’ of off-road biking, and one which will bring alive the centre of Selva Val Gardena from 14 to 17 June 2018, this thanks to the numerous events forming part of the HERO Bike Festival.
For all who are fans of mountain biking it is a must date in the competition calendar, it being the race with the highest number of bikers present at any mtb start line in Italy. The occasion will certainly test competitors to the full, they rising to the challenge along a real tough and demandingly technical route requiring both tenacity and stamina. The inspirational and memorable Dolomites landscape only adds to the fascination of the day.
The HERO Südtirol Dolomites, the world’s toughest mtb race, returns to celebrate its ninth year on Saturday 16 June 2018: two routes of 86 and 60 kilometres with respective total altitude gains of 4500 and 3200 metres. The race winds through valleys and up and down passes which have written the story of cycling, note for example the legendary status of Gardena, Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella and Duron.
The time for bikers to register for the 2018 race is fast approaching. The chance to add one’s name to the list of HEROes is one not to miss. From 20.00 13 September it will be possible to register for the HERO 18, simply going to the official event site www.herodolomites.com. All can be done with a click or two of a mouse. Registration will result in 4018 athletes being present at the start line in the centre of Selva Val Gardena, and to be part of a race and adventure like few in the world of sport, and as in previous years the registations will be ‘sold out’ in several hours.
If you don’t wish to miss out on this occasion you must be super fast to do the necessary once registation opens.
A MOUNTAIN BIKE CELEBRATION
The HERO atmosphere is something special and in no way can it be termed as a simple competition. It is rather a mountain bike and sports festival in general. From 14 to 17 June the centre of Selva Val Gardena will again live the thrills of a full and long weekend of heroes, this thanks to the HERO Bike Festival, four days dedicated to the world of two wheels and other attractions besides. There will be a rich programme of events and initiatives dedicated to the world of biking and beyond. There will be the chance to discover parts of the two race routes with guided walks along the HERO Trails. On the Thursday evening there will be space foir fashion with the HERO Charity Fashion Night, the charitable initiative which will show on the catwalk the latest developments in technical bikewear and accessories.
On the Friday it will be the time of the young bikers with HERO Kids, kids aged between 4 and 12 contesting in friendly manner the race of young champions around a route in the centre of Selva. And then again there is the HERO Women’s Lounge, open from Thursday to Satirday to welcome all our heroines and their female supporters in an area dedicated entirely to them in true heroine style.
After the race and the official prizegiving at the HERO Great Finale there will be just one event left. On Sunday 17 June the Dolomites Bike Day, a free non competitive biking day with roads closed for the occasion will get going with a choice of start from either Corvara or Arabba, with the chance to cycle along and through the historical passes of Campolongo, Falzarego and Valparola.
