THE DOLOMITES: A FRAGILE AND SENSITIVE ENVIRONMENT
Biking in close contact with nature, in an amazing landscape like no other, as is the Dolomites, one learns to coexist with the environment around, and to respect rules and regulations and reduce to the minimum the impact one might have on the delicate equilibrium between man and nature. The Dolomites were recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009 and so became a ‘common patrimony’ and as such there being even more reason to protect and preserve in the best possible way. The question of equilibrium referred to is an essential consideration for the Dolomites, they meriting the respect of all to continue to maintain their integrity. The question of respect is a duty not only of the inhabitants but of the visitors who choose this destination for their holidays or to visit to practise a sporting passion. With this in mind the Organising Committee of the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites has been attentive from the very first edition to promote a culture whereby nature is respected and the event now enjoys a “Green Event” standing.
